Patrick Kurtz is a private investigator, criminalist, author, editor, publisher, and researcher. He lives with his wife, Dr. Maya Grünschloß, and their two children, Ian and Enlil, alternating between Germany, Barcelona (Spain), and the Isle of Skye (Scotland).
A native of the Römer family and grandson of the Central German local historian Hilmar Römer, Patrick Kurtz studied Provincial Roman Archaeology, Psychology, Comparative Literature, and German Studies at the Universities of Oxford, Leipzig, Marburg, and Hagen. In addition to editing Aidan Johnstone’s memoirs under the title Livingstones Mahnung ("Livingstone’s Warning"), he published the scholarly volume Von Ovid, Grass und Tintagel Castle – Wissenschaftliche und Essayistische Ausflüge in die Europäische Literatur (“Of Ovid, Grass and Tintagel Castle – Scholarly and Essayistic Excursions into European Literature”) in 2012.
Patrick has also pursued studies—at varying levels of intensity—on topics such as prehistory; religion and mythology; the origin, development, and nature of the universe, life (with a focus on biochemistry, especially the DNA molecule), and consciousness; philosophy; police violence; climate change; and democracy, demagogy, and disinformation in the 21st century. His research interests encompass both academic and alternative scientific approaches, and he frequently looks beyond the Western intellectual horizon. Among his other interests and passions are music (he is a multi-instrumentalist), Rishi yoga, scuba diving (PADI-certified), and various forms of physical activity.
Motivated by his natural inclination for combination, deduction, and analysis, Patrick completed his private investigator training in 2012/13 and has since worked as a certified professional investigator (IHK-certified detective). His academic and practical focus lies in criminalistics, with an emphasis on human ethology.
Additional qualifications in investigation and security include: IHK proficiency examination pursuant to § 34a GewO, professional firearms qualification pursuant to § 7 WaffG, certification in life-saving emergency measures and defibrillator operation, VdS-certified intervention specialist, certified lift attendant under TRBS 3121.
Languages: German, English, and Spanish (fluent), as well as varying degrees of conversational and vocabulary proficiency in Italian, French, Catalan, and Greek. Patrick also holds the Latinum (Latin proficiency certificate) and is familiar with the Hebrew alphabet.
